Credit Card Debt Elimination - Pursuing The Objectives And Conclusion
We have now looked at the elimination of credit card debt through the use of setting objectives. In the first and second articles in this series, we looked at why it could be helpful to use objective setting to help eliminate such debt. We then looked at the causes of the credit card debt problem, and in the previous article at how we could set objectives to help us deal with each of those causes.
By applying objectives to the causes of credit card debt, rather than to the total amount of debt we may have, we are in effect attacking the problem on a much broader and deeper front. The total elimination of credit card debt is a very tough proposition, so being aware of, and positively dealing with, the root causes, gives you a much better chance of eliminating the problem once and for all.
As with many difficult accomplishments, you will require persistence and tenacity to achieve the total elimination of your credit card debt. However, by constantly reminding yourself of the drawbacks and high costs of credit card use, you do stand a chance of succeeding in your objectives. Gradually, you will start to naturally reject the use of plastic credit for your personal finances. It can become the norm for you to manage your finances better and always seek the best way to spend money, instead of automatically reaching for the credit card.
There is one argument we have not yet looked at in favour of credit cards; they are convenient as a payment means, and some people do not like carrying cash around. However, if you manage your finances well, then there is no need to use the credit card for convenience. Carry a debit card with you, and the problem is solved. You are a cash purchaser; the chances are you can get a better deal, knowing that you can actually afford the goods out of your own money.
Believe it or not, it can be a good feeling when you reach the stage where you only buy things for cash, cheque, or debit card. It is a very strong sign that you are in control of your finances, and you are succeeding in the elimination of credit card debt. It sets you apart from so many people around you. Sometimes, it is really beneficial to be different; and this is one of those times.
