A Free Credit Report From Annual Credit Report .com
As we say elsewhere on this website, if you are in the US you will soon be able to get an annual credit report free. Federal Law has been amended so that an annual free credit report will soon be available, if it has not already become so. A single website, annualcreditreport.com , has been set up to deal with the processing of the free reports.
Annual credit report.com has been set up by the three nationwide consumer reporting companies (ie Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union) to deal with requests for these free annual credit reports. The site has been unavailable when I tried to review, but you may try again at:

Your free annual credit report would include information on your address, your bill payment record, and whether you’ve been sued, arrested for anything, or have filed for bankruptcy. Consumers in western states were first able to order their annual credit reports under the federal law from December 1, 2004. Consumers in other states will be able to order their free annual credit reports over a 9 month period.
According to a Federal Trade Commission website, you can call toll-free on 1-877-322-8228 to obtain your report. But also, beware of anyone making direct contact with you, as there are a number of scams around, attempting to get personal details by email or even telephone. So be careful; annualcreditreport.com will not be sending out such emails as those being received by many people. It makes sense just to deal through the official websites.
